How could this possibly go wrong?

I just realized, now, 2.5 hours after it's too late, what I just did before my wife, the lovely [livejournal.com profile] botgrrrl left to attend her company's awards banquet.

I, a butch among butches, gave fashion advice to a femme. Which resulted in said femme changing portions of her look.

Right before the semi-formal awards banquet.

Oh, God, what have I done?

(Note: given that it was advice on jewelry - on which I may, in fact, be considered to have some small expertise - we're probably okay. But when it hit me what I'd done, I thought it was funny as hell.)

Second Ink

Was even lucky enough to get the same artist as last time. Same size/place as the first, just on the right arm instead of the left. Photo taken just after the artist finished.

First Ink

Had my first tattoo done yesterday evening, on the inside of my left arm. This was shot with my iPhone right after completion:

Being sick sucks.

Coming home from vacation to a fever of 102 degrees really sucks. However, tickets to see Suzanne Vega at the Moore on February 25, along with a new album of acoustic re-recordings of some of her best songs . . . does not suck.

I'm going to go lay back down now. This typing thing is tiring.

The *real* reason I passed my exam

Right here - Phoebe T. Katt insisted on "helping" me study the last day before the test. Isn't she a good kitty?

One not-sucky thing about 2009

I can now add "Security+ Certified" to my resume.

Convinced I was going to fail, given that I missed half the class and have not exactly had the clearest and best-functioning of brains for the past few months (hell, large parts of this year, for one reason or another), I passed with a score of 855 on a 100-900 scale. Since it's a minimum 750 to pass, it wasn't even a seat-of-my-pants dumb-luck pass either, but a respectable pass.

Of course, since I'm an insurance agent, not sure how much good having "Security+ Certified" on my resume will do, but hey, the company paid for it all, including my text and test voucher.

Of course, then I got a look at the size of the A+ and Network+ certification texts - I only thought I had to do a lot of work for Security+ . . .

New Years Eve

Anybody have any suggestions? We have no plans at this point, having not been invited anywhere or planned anything . . . we've been a bit busy, what with Christmas, me being dizzy, and me studying to take the Security+ exam (which I do tomorrow).

What's fun to do on New Year's Eve around here?

Friends Meme

Courtesy of [livejournal.com profile] charlesks:

If you respond to this, I will:

1. Tell you why I befriended you.
2. Associate you with something - fandom, a song, a color, a photo, etc.
3. Tell you something I like about you.
4. Tell you a memory I have of you.
5. Ask something I've always wanted to know about you.
6. Tell you my favorite user pic of yours. (after some searching on my part)

In return, you must post this in your blog.

Sigh. In addition to all the *other* issues in my life right now . . . I won't be able to take the Security+ exam for free after all.

I had to do it before the end of the year, and the only day that I might be able to schedule an appointment is the same day as my PT appointment to hopefully fix this vertigo issue - the testing windows all conflict with the PT appointment.

Sigh. Crossing my fingers that vouchers will be available for next year, but not holding my breath. Damn it, that's a $260 exam that I can't justify paying for out of my own pocket.

EDIT:

HAH! Victory is mine after all! There's not a single testing center in the Bellevue area that will let me schedule a test farther out than the 18th. However, if I'm willing to go to Tacoma, I can test at TCC on New Year's Eve - not only getting it done at the last minute, but also not having to take extra time off from work, since I already have the day off!

Heh. Just made my first ever Wikipedia edits - changed [livejournal.com profile] philfoglio's and [livejournal.com profile] kajafoglio's pages to say "won" instead of "nominated for" the first Hugo for Best Graphic Story. [livejournal.com profile] cheyennewright hasn't got a page, or I'd have edited his, too.

Allow me to give LJ shout-outs to my friends, the Hugo-award-winning [livejournal.com profile] philfoglio , [livejournal.com profile] kajafoglio , and [livejournal.com profile] cheyennewright !

Congratulations, guys, on winning the first-ever Hugo for Best Graphic Story! May this be just the first of many for Girl Genius!

Only in the outskirts and in the fringes . . .

Suzanne Vega's Live at the Stephen Talkhouse album - $9.99 on iTunes.

"Left of Center" performed practically a capella, with just a bass guitar taking the place of Joe Jackson's piano work from the original version - priceless.

The 12 Days of Christmas, Seattle-Style

Stolen from a poster called "Blabberwocky" on the Seattle Times website:

"On the 12th day of Christmas, my true love gave to me
12-hour delays
Airlines poisoning travelers
Ten miles of tail lights
Nine councilmen carousing
Most the city stranded
Metro routes canceled
Half the plows of Portland
FIVE HOUR COMMUTES!
Sand instead of salt
Three tons of snow
Two buses dangling
And a fat-assed, incompetent mayor!!!"

Swear to God, I'm tempted to move to Seattle just so I can vote against that idiot in the next election. Grading the city's response to the snow a "B," my gold-plated lesbian ass.

Educate Sarah Palin!

Let's teach Sarah Palin about the Supreme Court! Everyone's probably heard by now of Sarah Palin, the Republican candidate for Vice President. What you may not have heard yet is that she is, as of this moment, unable to name any Supreme Court Case other than Roe v. Wade, as evidenced by Katie Couric. Seeing as how this woman could very well be our NEXT VICE PRESIDENT, I say we, the People, should take an active role in our government and teach her about this hallowed institution.

Rules: - Post info about ONE Supreme Court decision, modern or historic to your lj. - Any decision, long as it's not Roe v. Wade. (She knows that one already!) - For those who see this on your f-list, take the meme to your OWN lj to spread the fun and the edumacation!

Here's a twofer - Bowers v. Hardwick in 1986, where the Supremes upheld the constitutionality of Georgia's sodomy law, and the 2003 Lawrence v. Texas decision, where they reversed the earlier decision and declared all such laws unconstitutional.
